1-A make or buy decision is when some has the decision of buying the product or doing it themselves. In my case I am a party planner/decorator. In this decision, I would have to chose to make my own products. I am able to buy the supplies and sell them at a flat rate with a percentage added to the bill for labor. I have been doing this for about 5 years now and have learned that making my own products is more affordable them purchasing them from someone else. In certain cases I do hire someone to make items that would take up too much of my time and take away from my party planning time and creative thinking. On the other hand, I am able to set some goals where I am able to keep the labor cost low and increase some of the product cost. It all depends on the event I am doing. If it is a small gathering I will charge less for labor and up charge in the products requested or vice versa if it is a large party I will charge more for labor and make the products more affordable. It keep my task balanced and I am able to meet all of the clients expectations and keep them with in their budgets.

2-A make-or-buy decision is the act of choosing between manufacturing a product in-house or purchasing it from an external supplier. In this decision, the most important factors to consider are part of quantitative analysis, such as the associated costs for production and if the business has the capacity to produce at the required levels. This decision can also be known as the “outsourcing decision” because an outside supplier might be outsourced to do the work in the case the business does not choose to manufacture on their own.

In my personal experience in my job, we see both decisions being made, some cases we choose to outsource and some cases we make in house. For example, a number of years ago we decided to hire an outside source to come and maintain the cleaning of our facilities- bathrooms, vacuuming, sweeping, dusting, trash disposal, etc. This allowed us to keep our costs minimized instead of hiring employees to clean the building and having to provide insurance, medicals, 401ks, etc as the other employees get. We also didn’t want to clog up our maintenance department with these tasks as they are already taking care of all the mechanics of our buildings. We have worked with the same outside company for years now and have built a respectful relationship and they value our business and loyalty as we value their hard work.

Conversely, we are a manufacturing company so there are instances that we have to create products because that is our job. However, there might be multiple steps within the process of competing the product that we can buy instead in order to speed up the process. For example, we utilize totes and drums to house our chemicals. A number of years ago, we used one time use barrels and then had to throw them away. Now, we use reusable containers when possible. When empty, these have to be thoroughly cleaned and sterilized before being put back into use. We have limited space in our facility, however, decided that we would utilize one section and convert into a cleaning room where we have a shift rotation of our employees to this room and basically wash and dry the containers before restocking them. This decision came after receiving quotes from other companies who wanted to come in and clean them with their own equipment. Since our factory works around the clock, this wouldn’t prove feasible as we would have to stop production for them to haul in their equipment and spend time cleaning. We thought that a more beneficial and efficient way would be to use an underutilized room and convert to a cleaning station for use whenever the shifts were assigned.

SBI Remit, in collaboration with Siam Commercial Bank (SCB), is using Ripple’s blockchain enterprise solution, xCurrent, to power real-time remittance payments between Japan and Thailand. This makes it possible for 47,000 Thai nationals living in Japan to send money home faster. SBI Remit’s customers can use ATMs to instantly send money in JPY to a recipient’s SCB savings account in Thailand and receive funds in THB within seconds. Before offering this service, recipients were required to retrieve cash through an agent.

For SBI Remit and many other banks around the world transferred funds across borders can take up a lot of time and a lot of money through fees. It wouldn’t make sense for a bank like SBI Remit to create a t4echnology in-house. With blockchain technology outsourced from Ripple, moving money becomes much more seamless, easier, quicker and even safer. The big question for top financial institutions is, do they create their own blockchain technology, or do they buy it from an outside source? Many people have their eyes towards large banks such as Bank Of America and if they will adopt the technology from Ripple by outsourcing, or try to create blockchain technology of their own in-house.
